The deputy Minister of Energy, Dr. Eldred Taylor, has presented a 500Kva transformer to the people of Portee Community in the east of Freetown to help with the evacuation and distribution of quality electricity to homes and business centers in the community.

Welcoming the Deputy Minister and his team, Councilor of Lower and Upper Portee, Madam S.D. Williams and the Community Chief, Ya Almamy Kamara, thanked President Bio for his impressive development strides, noting that the New Direction government had consistently and genuinely sought to address the electricity deficit in the Portee Community.

While presenting the transformer, Deputy Minister of Energy, Dr. Eldred Taylor, said he had delivered a 500Kva transformer to replace the faulty 315Kva transformer, stressing that the capacity of the new transformer would allow the community to benefit from the long-term supply of quality electricity.

He bemoaned the absence of electricity in the community for one month because of the mechanical challenge that the old transformer had, but said that with President Julius Maada Bio learning about the problem, he immediately asked the Ministry of Energy to provide the community with a bigger and stronger transformer. He noted that with the new one now being installed, Portee would not experience such a problem again.

Dr. Taylor praised stakeholders for their concerted efforts in ensuring that the transformer was delivered and implored them and the entire community to own and protect the transformer. Member of Parliament of Constituency 116, Hon. Gbekie, spoke about the number of written requests he had made on the issue of electricity in the Portee community to stakeholders in the energy sector. He expressed delight at the delivery of the transformer.
