Community Representatives on the FCC/MOS Covid-19 Training

At the Atlantic Hall, Stadium Hostels in Freetown, the Freetown City Council (FCC) and the Devolved Sport Sector of the Ministry of Sport has on Tuesday 30 June 2020 trained youth and community leaders on the precautionary measures associated in the fight against COVID-19.

Jibson Gaima who is the Devolved Sports Officer assigned to FCC said that youth and community leaders have a lot to do in the fight against COVID-19 and government efforts in such a fight must be complemented by all.

He emphasized that the peace initiative in the fight against COVID-19 is of paramount importance, and he, therefore, urged the participants to endeavor to promote peace in the campaign against the virus.

The Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Sport, Abdul Rahman Conteh on behalf of the Sports Minister assured all of the government commitment in the combat against COVID-19, and he implored on communities and youth leaders to be very consistent on passing the messages of coronavirus prevention across their communities.

He underscored that the government through the Ministry of Sport is very much concerned with sports promotion across the country.

Anabi Yusufu Kamara who is from the Sierra Leone Referees Association called on all to maintain peace amidst such turbulent times when COVID-19 has wreaked havoc on the country’s economy thereby, affecting the daily life of the people.

He acknowledged the stress associated with quarantine and isolation facilities, but however, he said that such measures taken by the government are for the good health of all Sierra Leoneans.

“The fight against COVID-19 should not be politicized,” he advised.

In summary, the training was well organized and interactive and at the end of the day, the over 15 communities present agreed to continuously raise the awareness against the dreadful corona-virus.
