As they fight to curtail the coronavirus pandemic in Sierra Leone, the Freetown City Council and the Devolved Youth Sector of the Ministry of Youth Affairs (MOYA) have concluded the distribution of veronica buckets, face masks, hand sanitizers, soap and tissue papers to communities in the east of Freetown.
Sulaiman Kargbo who is the Devolved Youth Officer attached to FCC said that the provision of the said items is very timely in making communities more resilient in tackling the novel coronavirus. He emphasized that the coronavirus is very much alive and therefore the fight to curtail the pandemic should be collective.
He commended the youth for being very active in the fight and he encouraged them to continue in the same vein,adding that the items donated will ensure adequate hygiene and for the wellbeing of the community members.
“Please let us continue to wash our hands and maintain social distance,” he appealed.
He advised all to abide by all the precautionary measures put forward by the Government of Sierra Leone and the World Health Organization (WHO), and that if the measures are truly observed, the coronavirus would soon be a thing of the past.
He disclosed that the donation is for 10 wards in the east, central and west of the Freetown Municipality, all with the aim of breaking the chain of transmission and hence, save lives.
He called on those who are still in the denial of coronavirus in the country to have a change of heart, adding, such denial has contributed to the rise of coronavirus cases and has affected the national economy and the livelihood of all Sierra Leoneans.
Councilor Hoodie Munu of Ward 420 covering the Cline Town, Kissy Brook via Black Hall Road, Race Course and Upgun Communities, amongst others, commended FCC and MOYA for raising the bar in the fight against the coronavirus in Ward 420 and assured authorities that his ward remains very committed in the coronavirus fight.
Councilor Hudee Tajudeen of Ward 422 in the Fourah Bay Community applauded FCC for the donation presented to the community and he said that similar donations have been received by the community and that the FCC donation would be utilized in certain parts of the community that is yet to fully benefit from such items.
Councilor Radiatu Bashar Sankoh of Ward 423 covering communities such as Kissy Road, Fourah Bay Road, and Moa Wharf assured FCC and MOYA that the items provided would be utilized and Ward 423 would support government efforts to reach zero coronavirus cases.
Collectively, the other councilors and ward representatives vowed to utilize the items for the benefit of all.
