Four accused persons who identified themselves as Abubakar Fofanah, Williams Turay, Edward Renner and Alimamy Sesay were on Monday 22nd January, 2023 sent on remand by Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba Road Court No1 for allegedly stealing monies kept at a safe for the running of the funeral home.
The accused had been arraigned before the court on the charges of conspiracy and office breaking and larceny.
The charge sheet indicated that the accused on Saturday 14th October 2023 at Virtues funeral home Kingtom conspired together to commit the crimes.
The charge sheet further indicated that the accused on the same date and place with intent to steal broke and entered into the office of Madam Dauphine Davies and stole $, US 1, 200 fiscal cash of NLe 21,700, a musical set valued at Le 7,000 and other valuable items all to the total valued of NLe 38,700.
Led in evidence by Sergeant Lahai Farma, the witness Daphny Renner recognized the accused in the dock and recalled that on Saturday 14th October 2023 she received a call from Madam Davis, the owner of the mortuary about a breakage into the safe and the stealing of a television set.
She said that inside the safe there was cash of over Le 20,000,000 and other monies including the salary of one Alimamy, who is a driver.
The witness said upon receipt of the information she went to the funeral home and upon arrival she met the fourth accused, Alimamy who told her that thieves had broke and enter into the office and carted away with the monies in the safe.
She said she then called the security guard, Victor Mannah who had been on duty at the time of the incident, and he explained that he was not aware of what had happened and that it was the fourth accused Alimamy who had also told him about what had happened.
She said that later she looked round the office and discovered that other items had also been taken.
Witness Renner further that she then called police officers from the Kingtom Police Post who later arrived at the scene and took snap shot of the crime scene.
She added that he fourth accused Alimamy was then arrested at the scene and taken to the police station for questioning.
She told the court that later the other accused were also apprehended.
At this juncture, the prosecutor sought for an adjournment which was granted by Magistrate Sahr Kekura.
The accused persons were remanded in custody until the 30th of January, 2024 when the matter comes up next for further hearings.
