As corona virus (Covid-19) continues to spread in Sierra Leone, this has urged the Community Action for Progress (CAP) Organization to astutely compliment government’s efforts in the robust fight against covid-19 in the country.

On July 3rd 2020, the organization has holistically distributed two thousand (2000) Face Masks to residents and other public places in the Wellington axis.

Following the distribution of the masks, the president of CAP organization Mohamed Sheriff commonly called faculty, flanked by his agile and diligent strong men carried out the distribution across the Wellington community.

The president disclosed the importance of this venture as what he described as a concern for the people. Mr. Sheriff also thanked the president and his government for their timely approach and measures they applied to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

“We wish to make it conspicuously clear that we are non-political organization, we would have loved to extend this gesture beyond wellington Community, but because of the limited number of face masks produced, we have selected the Wellington community and its ‘Ataya Bases’.

CAP realised that the vast majority of its members are within the Wellington community and they normally visit the ‘Ataya Base’ which serves as the convergent point for members every blessed day.

According to CAP President, the venture is to meet the need of poor residents of Wellington who can’t afford a Face Mask. Also, ” it is a way of passing the information of the existence of Covid-19 Pandemic in Sierra Leone as some people hold a contrary opinion” said the President.

The severity of the pandemic and its devastating effects on people have caused serious challenges in the area of using the Face Masks, while some would say they can’t afford to buy it, and this has forced the organization to come onboard and give their own support to the government and the people.

Speaking to this medium, Alpha Bangura, one of the beneficiaries said it was a blessing in disguise for an organization like (CAP) to give out two thousand (2000) face masks to people across the Wellington axis.

” now that we have received the masks form CAP organization, we should ensure that the provided Masks are used when interacting with other people in and out of our houses everyday as this can be of help against the spread of the virus.” Alpha Bangura advised.

Closing the distribution, the financial secretary, Amidu Conteh thanked all the members of CAP organization for their unanimous contributions towards the distribution of the Face Masks Project.

“I wish to bring the knowledge of the general public that this project is fully funded by the above named organization. It is very essential to note that we intend to do more in the fight against covid-19. Since the Coronavirus hits us, we have been doing active mobilization to sensitize our people about the virus, that’s why Wellington has not been recorded any Corona cases. So if there would be any supports from the government or any NGO’s, we will extend this gesture in other communities.”  said Mr. Amidu Conteh.
