God is good: He’s been good to each of us. “…He lets the sun rise for all people, whether they are good or bad. He sends rain to those who do right and to those who do wrong.” (Matthew 5:45 ERV). Who doesn’t want to be on the receiving end of such care (goodness and love)?
Who wants to be giving and not receiving in return?
Well, in the last couple of months I realized I was receiving some “special care and love” contrary to what I had been made to believe was possible. I’ve always believed that I should be the one giving it out- it is more blessed to give than to receive. Right? As I pondered this, a friend said this to me- “Kumba once in a while the Shepherd needs to become the sheep and experience love and care too”.
My friend’s words didn’t make much sense, immediately. However, I later came to figure out that the shepherd too needs to be cared for. You see, taking care of people is no child’s play. It can be so overwhelming and draining. It takes the best part of you, and if you are not careful you will end up breaking down.
As a Shepherd who shepherds others along, you’re only human with a divinely given responsibility; And no matter how much of a super hero you think you are, there’s a time when you will certainly become low on your reservoir of strength, and will need to refill. The good news is that because you’re also a sheep to the greatest Shepard of all, your help (comfort and support) comes from Him, and He will send you help and comfort as you continue to care for others.
In these past couple of months, I have become that sheep in need of love, and the greatest Shepard of all has given me “more than what I thought I needed”.
As you go this week, “Don’t get tired of helping others. You will be rewarded when the time is right, if you don’t give up.”
(Galatians 6:9 CEV). Remember that the good shepherd knows that you also need some love too.
Don’t forget to smile coz it looks good on you.
God bless you.
